Yahoo! has confirmed that a new beta version of its Messenger product is on the way, for users of Vista OS. It uses the Windows Presentation Foundation graphics engine for functions like scrolling, to work smoothly. As part of the addition, Yahoo said that the WPF 3D feature will be used to display voice visualizations during phone conversations. The much-requested Yahoo! Mail alerts will also be implemented in the future.

The beta version, due out sometime in the second quarter, will add voice messaging the well as the ability to send SMS messages. But no news as of now on the conferencing feature of messenger that we all love.

The brilliant feature of WPF has been used only by a handful of developers who have tried to put it to good use. If all goes well this version of Yahoo! Messenger could well be an eye candy for many Vista users.
